I want to replace the speakers on my 2001 Camaro. I have the UN0 (200 watt Monsoon) and the U59 (8 speaker) RPOs and I've installed the factory 12-disc CD changer.

Before I start getting all sorts of exotic recommendations, let me tell you what I'm looking for. I want clear, crisp sound that doesn't cost me a fortune. I'm not looking for symphony hall quality and I don't care if I can't vibrate house windows in the next zip code. I have no interest in changing the head unit either.

Given these criteria, what does everyone recommend?

Honestly you'll never get great sounding audio out of the stock head unit or amp, believe me I attempted it and was just disappointed. In the end your best bet is to just buy a decent head unit and swap out the speakers. There are a lot of car audio manufacturers out there and the following are just a few that I like. Alpine, Adire, Boston, Cambridge, Infinity, JBL, and JL. Sony equipment is crappy for the most part so don't fall into the normal consumer "it's sony so it must be good" syndrome. So long as you stick to a company that either has a major focus on high quality audio components or exclusively manufactures decent to high-end equipment you'll love the results.

Well, I was hoping I could keep the head unit, but it doesn't sound like it. Thanks for the advice!

replace the stock hu.. get new speakers.. and rewire it so it dosent run though the stock amp.. then it will be good..

alpine or pioneer hu's are good.. you can use them to power a nice set of component speakers..

alpine type-r's are nice.. or the kicks components..

but for best sound I reccomened an external amp..

Diamond Audio speakers are very nice. I would suggest those. I used to have the Diamond Audio M3 5 1/4" component set in a 96 sunfire gt I had. They sounded wonderful. I have nothing in my camaro right now though. :(
