I am having an alarm installed on my 97 Firebird. They did most of the work but I have to go back Sunday and have it finished because they needed to order a part. Ever since they started, the Security light has stayed lit when I turn on the car. I have heard there is a way to turn off the factory security system through the radio, however I don't have the original radio installed. Anyone have some ideas how to get this annoying light off? Thanks!

it shouldnt have anything to do with the radio ..
you must have remote start .. which bypasses the chip on ur key which in turns leaves the security light on. i dont know of any way to disable it other than to take remote start off ur alarm.

Thanks for the response. I took it back yesterday to the alarm place and they were able to get the light off. I don't have a remote start system, so it must have been something they did with the alarm earlierMy 1991 Firebird - 3.1L V6 with custom K&N CAI, Flowmaster, Sony CD, MTX 4-ch amp, 2 MTX 10\" subs, Sony & Polk speakers, Eagle Wheels

My 1997 Firebird Trans Am with T-Tops, Panasonic CD, Alpine Speakers, MagnaFlow Exhaust, and Lingenfelter CAI.

If your car still doesn't start refer to my post under general tech bypass security

I will never have that problem again. I just went around it. And yes you still need a key to start the car, just in case any would be thiefs are out there.

the chip in the key is just a resistor, when you insert it into the ignition, curency is flowed through it and if the resistance is right, then the car starts. to by pass it, you just have to wire in a resistor so it always is open. i had to do this when i installed my viper remote start.I\'m so used to doing so much with so little, I can do anything with everything!
