I'm looking around for a new sound system to put into my car... i need some help because there are way too many types//brands to look at. i'm not sure what is what anymore. I need ya'll opinions on the best all around speakers, amps, and subs. With a reasonable cost of course. and that dont take a rocket scientist to put in. k thx

I was also thinking of putting 2 more speakers in a differenct place in my car. do You know the 2 speakers in the back 2 seats? the ones that are like shoulder lvl? well, directly under that, where the floor meets the plastic wall panel? there is a 1x1 foot indenture in the plastic. at least in the 02 camaros... i was thinking about cutting those out and putting 1 speaker on each side and making like a mesh grill, similar to the stock ones to go over it, or just putting the plastic panel back on. But i need to know if any body//frame metal is directly behind that stuff. thx

I really wouldn't waste time with the rear speaker idea. The speakers will be about 6" from the floor and behind the listener (you). Which is the complete opposite of what you want. Up front and ear level. And they possibly could be covered by people's legs from time to time.... I don't mean to totally shoot down your thoughts.... but it's just an all around bad idea.

Ok, before anyone starts making any recommendations, we need a budget of some sort. Even a ball park range to start with. Also, exactly how much bass are you looking for? Think a single 10" would add a little low end? Or a pair of 12" in a ported box to shake you into mush? Next, what type of music do you listen to most often? You plan on making the box yourself? Installing all of this yourself? I would recommend it. It's not nearly as hard as you might think and you'll really learn a lot. So when something happens... you're not totally clueless. Get what I'm saying?

i agree with 96firebird311, we cant recomend a system for you untill you give us more info but as for companies with great sounding products that wont break the bank, CDT's CL 6.5 components are still on sale at www.thezeb.com and are the best you will find for that price, and if you want rear fill there is a pretty good set of full range cdt's on the same site for like 60 buck. Amps i would look into some old xtant (the ones with the square holes in the top) on ebay, JL never dissapoints (in fact they are the best but this is very expensive stuff), and Elemental Design ( https://edesignaudio.hostasaurus.com...00207300000000 ) seams to have some good amps out now as well as some kick butt subs (there speakers are probably pretty good as well since cdt helped design them).

well, i do agree with ya'll on the floor speakers idea. But my buget is around 400 to like 700ish. i listen to lots of rap and techno, and i want enough bass to be good, but i dont want to shake the rear end of my car off. i'm guessing like 2 10's or a 12? something like that i suppose.. And i am planning to install it all myself.

thanks for the help so far though :D i'll look at those thing u posted tpunk

If you listen to rap you will probably be happier with the 12 (it hits lower frequencies commonly used in rap). I would suggest (for a budget system) getting a clarion HU(150-200), an Xtant 603x 3ch amplifier (from ebay its about 300), those cdt full ranges i told you about (60), some of the cdt components i showed you(150), and a 12" dvc infinity Kappa (75-90) or a K-series elemental design subwoofer(125). Run the rca lines to the amp from the HU then run the front speakers off the two lower power channels and then run the higher power channle to the sub at 2ohms. run the rear speakers from the HU and you will have a nice little system. plan on a little over the 700 dollar mark for this setup (and thats only if you get good deals on ebay).

Just a random thought I had,

Even though they don't have the best prices around [and I usually like working with local merchants], you could try ordering different speakers from Crutchfield, try them out, and keep the ones you like the best. I think there's no penalty for returning them, and even the return shipping is prepaid.

I've never done this, but it would be nice to "trial and error" a few brands/price points before you're locked into a choice. I'll admit the other guys posting so far in this thread know more than I do, though...

Everything in my setup is Rockford Fosgate, which is excellent stuff for the price. I used Fanatic Q components for the doors, 6.75" Fanatic 2-ways in the backseat, all run from a RF 301X amp. As for subs, I have a pair of 10" HX2's in a Milhouse box getting 400w each from a RF 801s amp. It's nothing that would shatter the back glass, but you can definitely feel it thump in your chest a little.
