  • Replacing whole monsoon questions

I currently have 98 firebird with the monsoon system. I also have a single Alpine type e 12" sub and amp which i plan to keep.

Im planning on replacing everything else.

What i have descided on so far:
    head unit- Alpine CDA-9856
    Amp- 4 channel Alpine MRP-F450
Front speakers- Alpine type - r components 17LS

Im not sure about the rear speakers. Would 6.5 alpine type r coaxials in the sail pannels in place of the subs be overkill for passengers in the back? Would it be better to modify the rear hatch speakers to put type-r 5x7s in? Would they be too far back?

Also would this system be alot better than the premium monsoon system?

I ripped out my whole Monsoon system and used RF Fanatic Q components up front, 6.5" Fanatic coaxials in the sail panels, 2 10" HX subs in a subthump box (getting 400 watts each), and just left out the hatch speakers. With all that bass in your trunk, you probably wouldn't notice much coming from those hatch speakers, so I would say get some medium-to-top-end coaxials for the sail panels and be done with it.

I started to go with the Alpine components you're getting, but the mounting depth on them looked like it would be a pretty tight squeeze. Be sure to check that out before you buy them.

yeah i have looked into the depth thing, and im planning on having to slightly modify the mounting to add a little space, but its been done.
i often have a couple friends in my car, so do you think coaxials in the sails would be too much when sitting in the back seat?
also how much of a difference is your setup from the monsoon?

i have fully stock deck wires and amp with the alpine type S and they sound frigg n awsome. Those type R are a good choice. my rear speakers are loud and hit hard but i switched them to into the actual panel instead of where they where befor i put them where the grill in my plastic was so i wan c them but they lost a little not very noticable but a little bass its just as loud but little less bass rumble "ya cant feel it as much but you can hear it as much". But it looks 3x as cool

I'll go ahead and recomend you stay away from alpine components and get some quality speakers. Look into CDT, Elemental Design, or Focal. You should end up spending about the a little less or possibly a little more and will get 1000X better sound quality. Also the alpine amp is imo sub-par as well, look at a JL, Elemental Design, or Pheonix Gold amp, you wont be dissapointed. My personal recomendation would be the ED equipment which you can take a look at here www.edesignaudio.com
