you need a fm transmitter i think i could be totaly wrong on all of this. but it wires between the antenna and the head unit and you can plug the ipod or other stuff into it and pick it up on your radio some how. i have heard it a few times but never payed enough attantion becouse i dont have a ipod or any other music playersw except my cd player. . .hope i helped a little you may want to look up fm transmitters and c if it is what i think it is ?

I have one and it great. U don't get the limited freq. response
      as the transmitters do.

That "3.5mm headphone jack to RCA plugs" will work only if your aftermarket headunit has RCA inputs. What's the name and model number of the headunit you have?

              Try looking on crutchfield.com

I have currently have a FM transmitter right now, but the quality is not the best, so I'm looking to just wire it to the HU by using a Aux input adapter. Doesn't charge like the FM transmitter but its only 35 bucks. I have a pioneer HU btw

According to the specs listed in THIS auction, the Sony mx8800 has an auxiliary input located in the rear. You'll get a much cleaner signal using that. Check Radio Shack, they should have a "mini headphone jack to RCA" adapter.

The (3.5mm to RCA) adapter will work. I found the same thing cheaper HERE It's just not gold plated.

                          You won't notice a difference.
