This is my first post with my 01 camaro. I'm glad to join the community and have found a ton of info on these boards.

Anyways off to my problem. I recently bought my camaro and the monsoon system is messed up. I don't know if it is the amp or the HU that is the problem.

Basically the only speakers that work are the front left tweeter, and the (2) 4'' speakers in the hatch. I have tried all the basic stuff like trying different fades and balance and have taken out the HU and amp to make sure everything was connected properly. Everything seems to be connected properly and I think it is either the HU or amp. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Welcome to the board! Please see our section in the modifications encyclopedia as well as the FAQ at the top of the stereo sub forum. LOTS of great info in there.

Did you buy the car new or used? Are you certain there is even speakers behind the grills? And if so, are you certain they are even connected? If everything checks out visually...try swapping the speakers out with a known working speaker. If you get sound, you know your amp and headunit are fine.

Also, the front tweeters are actually powered off the headunit. So for the left to be working and the right side dead.... leads me to believe either there is no tweeter there, it's disconnected or blown to shreds.

I took all the grills off and all the speakers are there, even the tweeters. Is there any way I can isolate either the amp or HU without too much work?

It looks like I might just have to bite and get a new HU and amp.

      EDIT (to actually answer questions):

I bought the car used with about 77k miles (2001 3.8)

Also I took all the speakers out and made sure they were connected (what a pain).

You can't just isolate the amp or headunit. The amp obviously needs inputs from the headunit to play music. And the headunit needs the power from the amp to drive the speakers. If you had a spare headunit laying around, it would be a simple plug and play swap. (Wiring harness, dash kit and antenna adapter)

The Monsoon speakers are notorious for frying. Use a known working speaker and connect it to each location where the speaker is not working. If it plays, your headunit and amp are fine and the speakers need to be replaced.

Former poster has a excellent suggestion. I will make one more,
replace the front door speakers with 2 ohm speakers by Infinity,
Kappa Model. $149 for a pair

No offense to you, but Infinity Kappas suck. I had them installed in my 96' in place of Bose speakers and was so pissed about the crummy sound, that I had the Bose speakers put back in.
