  • edit: got an MTX and have questions about voltage and such..

hey I'm just got my MTX thunderform with the thunder 6000 sub in it from a fellow board member but my amp seems to be having a really tough time pushing it. the amp is a kenwood excelon 201t..
    here are the specs..
    Rated Power Output (+B = 12.0 V)
    Bridged (4 Ohm) (1 kHz, 0.5 % THD) 200W x 1

    Rated Power Output (+B -= 14.4 V)
    Bridged (4 Ohm) (1 kHz, 0.5 % THD) 300W × 1

now of course our cars electrical systems auctually run at around 13.8 volts so I figure the output is somewhere between 200w rms and 300 rms.. max output is supposed to be 600W but I seriously doubt that I'm getting anywhere near that..

between this and the specs on the thunder 6000 in the thunderform box I would think this would rock that sub..

unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment, though I still have to redo my HU settings and the settings on the amp I was hoping for a little more than I am seeing at the moment..

so what does everyone here have pushing their thunderforms?

i have a lanzar 250w rms 500 max amp running my thunderform. its a crappy amp, works great but overheats easily. i wouldn't recomend it. i would think pushing 200w rms would be just fine. i don't know a whole lot about car audio tho.

I have a MTX Thunder4122 pushing the Thunderform and it does the job. I also have a Punch 400w for the speakers.

ok, here is another idea, the amp just doesn't seem to be drawing the power it needs to push that sub (the lights are dimming when it tries to hit)

does that sound like it needs a capicator?

for now I have installed my old JL in the box to have something.. guess this just went from an MTX specific question to a general audio stuff question.. :(
