Corrects for unequal speaker distances to the listener. Basically is delays the sound coming from the closest speaker for a fraction of a second so it reaches your ears at the same time as the sound coming from the furthest speaker. Sounds like you are sitting in the center of the two speakers, except..... your in the driver's seat. :D

i was thinking if thats what i meant. and if head units actually did that sort of stuff. now i know!
well i'm going to convert from kenwood to alpine. but only because the newest alpine looks really nice with the "organic" screen. it gives plenty of text room.\'96 Quasar Blue Firebird A4
jamiethekiller@comcast.net
my band: woodland

yea, time correction works. the techonology has been out forever, but companies are just getting it to be precise.
you actually know time correction as eq settings like "Hall" and "Statium" on home stereos. basically it sends the sound to the left speaker as it gets it, and then will delay the sound to the right speaker by various small incriments of time, as in milliseconds.
this creates an "echo" effect, and makes your ears think that the music is in a larger space.
time correction works on the same principle, but will delay the front speakers more than the back to allow the slight time for the sound to travel through the wire and then through the air to your ear. and it will delay the front left a little more than the front right because you are closer to the front left, etc, etc, etc. you get the idea.

Yes. Sound does travel fast, but the head unit only delays it for a millisecond or so. (user selectable) Wanna hear something bada$$? Owners of a newer Alpine headunit with time correction capabilities (9815) can log on to Alpine's website. Using the "i-personalize" feature you can input the actual path length distances to the listener and Alpine with give you the proper setting you would want to set your time correction features. You can also select your crossover frequencies and open screen options. THEN you have the option to burn ALL your settings to a CD-R. Pop it into your new headunit and BLAMO! All your setting magically change. Cool huh?
