• help!!, my car is gonna fall apart!!

does anyone have any ideas or tricks to eliminate most of the rattling on the back end of my car. It is mostly coming from the hatch, because when i push down gently on that, it goes away...anyway, if you have any cheap ideas, let me know. Thanks

Well your best option is like acutall dynomat or a spray on version of sound deadiner but in a pinch i do know of guys using rubberized body under coating that you buy at a hardware store. it works alright from what i hear but if you hit really hard it won't help much you may end up using a spray on and some dynomat also

i believe part of the problem could be your taillighs. they for some reason don't come tightened all the way. just tighten them a bit and i think that'll help alot. also check the spare tire and jack.

there's really only one way to do that. Locate what exactly is rattling and stop it from rattling by however works best. The brake light wire in the spoiler was one of my worst ones, another is the plastic trim on the hatch lid. You'll find them, just find them one at a time. Dynamat just isn't gonna do it. I've never seen it do enough to make it worth the while... Good luck

I HAVE A 99 CONVERTIBLE FIREBIRD, AND WHAT MY STEREO GUYS DID TO ELIMINATE RATTLE AT THE TRUNK IS THEY SCREWED 1/4 INCH THICK MDF PARTICLE BOARD IN THE SHAPE OF THE TRUNK LID TO THE TRUNK LID. THEN THEY CARPETED IT THE SAME AS THE REST OF MY INTERIOR, STEREO LOOKS GREAT

If your hatch is rattling that is easy to fix, I just did mine today(sick of rattle every bump I hit). Open your hatch, locate the hatch lock thing(Real technological I know ) then loosen the 3 bolts that hold it in place, mine were 10mm so urs are too prom, to tighten it, move it down to loosen move up. Once you get it moved, tighten the bolts and try it. If this doesn't work, then follow DrMilhouse's directions because it prob. isn't the hatch so much. Well thats my 2¢

99firebirdconv do you have a pic of the MDF screwed to your trunk. I'm thinking of doing this but I want to see how it looks and how exact the fit is to the trunk.

I sprayed that insulation foam stuff into my hatch at all points possible. I also put dynamat behind the taillights. THis solved 96% of the rattle...I seem to have a rattle right behind the drivers side wheel somehow.

Tighten your tail lights, or locate the rubber screws un the underside of your hatch. Un screw them a little bit. If those don't work first, then get some dynomat.

I'll try that too but most of my rattling is coming from my trunk. I have a convertible so it rattles 10 times worse then my bro's t-top. Thats why I was curious about the particle board thing. Thanks for the replies though

Funny, cause the carpet pad was what I sugjested... For me, I had just had 2 kicker comp VR 15s in my trunk with 2000 watts of power, Even with my 200mill thick replacement insulation the car was rattling at the hatch. Guess what ! THE AIR WAS PUSHING THE HATCH OPEN. When I leaned full on the hatch with my body weight it stopped. so I have a structural limit to how much air the hatch can hold. but Burbur carpat pad works great for just this and that rattles. I originally put it everywhere and it works well, but after having it for 8 months I took it all out and actually spent the money for some awesome Better and lighter than dynomatt insulation I got from work.

Now when the SS chevelle reves its open headered engines I wish I could get thicker glass cause I can barley hear anything outside except threw the windows. ( when they are closed )
