• Headlight Replacement = PITA

Well, today I got my sealed beam conversion kit for my car. I take out the stock headlight unit...and what do I find? The plug looks nothing like an H4 Plug! So, long story short...instead of the somewhat easy installation I was expecting...I now have to cut off whatever the hell kind of plug there is now and put an H4 connector on it's place. Oh well, could be worse I suppose...it's going to be worth it once they're in...I'll finally be able to see at night. The replacement bulbs came with some Nokya 7000K bulbs, should be pretty nice.

For any of you wondering what I'm talking about...here's some pics? Should I have expected this?

I tried taking pics of the back of the bulbs, but they came out really crappy, very poor lighting.

The H4 bulbs I got for a replacement look like standard H4's:

But the bulbs currently in my car look like this:

Thats the best I could do to show the plug pattern...I can't find pics anywhere as to what kinds of bulbs these really are...is this some kind of proprietary GM thing where you have to buy the GM certified bulbs or something?

it is a sealed beam connector. and as of right now, you need to splice to make it work, (or buy a adapter harness, if anybody is making one yet)

question, as i want to know this for the 93-97 lights, if you follow that harness back, do you get to a 5 pin weatherproof connector? with 2 wires going to the headlight motor?

as i plan on making a "plug in" harness, with the necessary wires, and connector for the new headlight bulbs for the 98+ cars, and it might be compatible with the 93-97 system as well.

    thanks

    Ryan.

I just put H7 lamps in my firebird. It was really easy. I just cut the old sealed beam halogen connector off and crimped on a new female spade. This plugged directly onto the post and viola! It works beautifull. :D

That is my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
