I replaced all the monsoon stuff in my 2000 firebird yesterday and bypassed the monsoon amp. The ground wire on the amp is held down to bare metal by a screw, but it's still making a bit of a "whine" that fluctuates with the engine rpm's. Can someone tell me how to get rid of this?

Here are some things you can do:
Make sure you run the power wire down the opposite side of the car as the RCA's.
Keep the RCA's away from power sources.
Ground it better.
you could try wrapping the power and ground wires in aluminum foil, although i dont know how well it will work in the car. It may eliminate some of the RF interference. -
Make your own ground for the head unit instead of using the factory ground wire..... I'm not joking.Comment

Ian's suggestion worked wonderfully. I wrapped the ground wire in aluminum foil, then used one of those wire protectors you see on the engine wires to keep the foil from shredding or coming apart. It worked wonders on the whining noise. It didn't get rid of it completely, but it went from barely tolerable to barely audible. yea, no problem man.
also, like 96firebird311 said, running a better ground from the head unit works too. They also make things called noise filters that are supposed to eliminate the interference, but only expensive ones work good.
im glad the foil worked. you can also take the amp ground off where it is, sand down whatever metal its on, and re-attach it. that helps too.Comment
