I am going to be moving my car down to where I goto school ( New Orleans, so its not the safest place... ) is it worth putting in a real alarm and scrapping the GM alarm?

Yes it's worth it in my mind. The stock alarm is not that good. Just make sure a good shop does the install. The install is almost everything!

However, you must keep in mind that if a thief want your car or anything in it, he will get it. The only way to keep your stuff from being stolen is to put it in a steel garage with no doors.

      In one word: YES.

More info: Aftermarket units add some very lucrative features that the stock alarm doesn't have. (Multiple zones, paging, shock/entry sensors, glass breakage, pain inducing horns, etc etc etc....)

Your best bet for THEFT protection is a good ol' fuel cut off. (Ignition cut-offs are popular too, but easy to bypass, cause everyone puts them under the dash)

For BREAK IN protection, good luck. You could get some bullet proof glass, or the pain inducing horns work well.

The bottom line in most cases is: If they really want in your car, they'll get in. About all you can do is keep them from taking the whole thing!

      Good luck, and enjoy Nawlins'

Thats basically what i was thinking. Since I have been down in New Orleans ( ive been here since the fall ) three of my friends have had their car broken into or stolen. I figure its worth the money.
