But here's the catch... I don't want to blow $50 on the PAC converter. So how would I go about doing this? I am using very cheap subs and amp right now, just to get something. Later I will upgrade head unit and all, but for now... how do I hook it up? Thanks.

Well, without a LOC, guess you'd need an amp with speaker level inputs. It's not a popular choice, but it works. You can tap into your speaker wires to get the signal. Never done it myself though. I've always bought a new HU with 2 or 3 sets of RCA's. Good luck.
Hmmmm... well that sucks. May as well not even fool with it right now then... I am really just interested in trying to build a fiberglass box right now. The plan is to sell them to pay for the rest of the stereo equipment :D . Well, I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and go for it...
Thanks!
