  • Help creating a "stock" six-speaker system...

I did a search but I couldn't find anything on this, so maybe it's never been tried before, but hopefully someone has done it and knows how it will go..

I have a totaled '96 3.8 with the 5 speaker system and I'm buying a '96 Z28 with the same 5 speaker system.. I got the idea to take the back speaker out of the totaled car and try to put it on the passenger side in the rear where the jack goes on the Z28.. How difficult would this be? Has anyone ever tried it? I'm hoping the head unit would support it because I don't want to spend any money on the sound system right now, but someone told me I would probably need a new head unit..

Everything in the sound systems on both cars is completely stock, the Bose head unit (cassette on the totaled car, CD on the Z28) and factory speakers..

    Thanks..

all you really need is 4 speakers for a good sound stage, you can get away with doing 2 good speakers in the front, but then you would be missing the rear fill.

I dont see how you could tremendesly benefit from an extra speaker wayyyyyyy back there.

Yeah really, it would probably to much trouble just for a speaker that doesn't even make much of a difference in sound. I know a lot of people that accually take that speaker out.

Oh ok, I was under the impression that that was the speaker that supplied a lot of the bass.. I'm already in the process of taking it out of the old car, because I'll be trying to sell it if I don't use it.. Maybe someone blew one out and ones one.. So when I get to the head unit I'll check if there is an extra spot to put a sixth speaker on, just in case I decide to do it for the fun of the project lol..

Thanks for the responses though, I won't spend too much time now trying to figure out a way to do it since it's not a big deal..
