go on an audio board (sounddomain.com?) and read around. most of those subs aren't too expensive and will blow away most "popular" stuff..

My Dad has a 8inch JL Audio sub in his street rod and it sounds great, go JL but make sure you listen to both speakers before you buy.

JL all the way! I've heard both and love the JL. The bass is a lot cleaner, although I think that he Kicker picks up some deeper bass over the JL. And I believe that Kicker is a lil more epxensive than JL, but not a whole lot. JL IMHO
              Stephen Cruikshank

Selling some stuff so all I have left is the FRA, !MAF Screen, whisper lid, Holley PowerShot, 3\" catback, and 160* thermo on the car

I Practice Street S.M.A.R.T.S. - do you?

Both of these companies are very reputable and its hard to compare unless your comparing models...however I would have to go with the W7 over the L7. For SPL have a look at the Solo X though
