• Anyone have XM radio?

I was thinking of getting this cause i'm always driving around in my car, and all the radio stations up here suck except one (which i don't get cause my radio doesn't pick up 87.7FM cause it only goes down to 87.9FM)

So if ya got it, how ya like it?

I have a home receiver and I love it.

I can't really speak to the reception issues, since my antenna stays in one place all the time!

I've noticed a slight crackling or fuzzy sound on VERY cloudy/rainy days, but 99.95% of the time, it's crystal clear!

Sony makes a very nice unit that is portable, I would consider getting this for my car if I travled much.

$10 a month is a bit steep. I predict that in a couple of years, when the resellers get their hands on it, you'll be able to get it for next to nothin' if you're willing to listen to commercials.

I was going to get it. But I dont know if its worth the monthly fee. I am kind of curious myself. And I was always skured that snoop dogg would come crashing through my roof.

Ha ha ha! I love those commercials. I'm pretty sure there's no chance that Snoop will come through my roof, but I could swear I heard Boyd Tinsley goin' at it in my backyard the other day.

P.S. Boyd Tinsley is the fiddle player for Dave Mathews Band ;)

I was thinking about getting an XM radio subscription also because where I live, only a few stations come in clearly. There isn't a problem when I drive, I get good reception then. I couldn't find a price on the sony home receiver, how much did you pay for yours? Does the sony receiver just act as an adapter for your stereo, or is it a stand alone stereo unit all in itself? Thanks.

Well i just got a pioneer cdplayer that is "xm ready" so all i would need to get is the reciever and antenna.

But someone at work said that you can't get XM in alaska!!! I'm gonna have to check up on that.

I actually used to work in the Mobile department of Circuit City before I transfered a week ago. XM is only available in the 48 states. There is a "little" overlap into Canada and Mexico, but thats it. They might expand service in the future, but I haven't heard any new yet. XM is pretty bad-*** . Anything you want to listen to, anytime, anywhere. And it costs less than a cd per month. Once I got XM, I haven't bought a CD in 3 months. Awesome stuff. Sirius is out now too. They deal with Kenwood, Jensen and Clarion. They're main point is they are totally commercial free. AND they have a porno channel, why I can only guess. Anyways, I can't really complain, I got the equipment for free and 6 months free subscription.

As of April 1st it was available to most of the US. As of today, I believe it pretty much available everywhere. It will follow XM's lead and be available in the US only. However, with the way Sirius is setup in an elliptical orbit, it's 3 satellites could, in theorey, cover the entire world. XM only has 2 satellites, in geosynchronous orbit, so it would be harder for them to cover that broad of an area. In my opinion, Sirius is going to pale in comparison to XM. The reason they were so late getting onto the market was that their satellite decoding chipset would never work. They are shipping decoder's as we speak, but what I've heard from the company's reps is that those chipsets are only a temporary solution. We haven't had a problem yet, but I'd rather not have a "temporary solution" sitting in my trunk.

Has anyone heard about the new product from Eclipse called the Blitz-something? It involves Sattelite radio and maintaing the digital signal with universal adapters!!

It's supposed to plug into the AUX input or into RCA's and provide digital quality sattelite radio from either XM or Sirrus. That way you avoid the whole digital-to-analog thing that happens with the universal recievers when. Since the universal have to transfer the signal into a regular FM frequency in order for regular radios to get it, the blitz maintains the digital signal with a universal adapter!!

Actually, the Sony cassette XM adapter is capable of this also. Just plug in a cord with a male connection at each end, and plug it into your aux. input.
