What is a good hard hitting 6.5?? I was looking at this KFC-XR601 and KFC-X168 They both seem to get to some really low Hertz. Opinions. And are after market speaker grills an easy install cuz the ones on the firebird without the monsoon system look hideous i think.

I used to have some 6 1/2 cerwin vega V-mags that hit really hard off of the stock tape deck for a 97 camaro. That was until I took em back because they didnt fit the 6 3/4 opening in the car.

i have 6.5 in rockfords and i love them. usually when someone hears my car for the first time they ask if i have an 8 or a 10 in the trunk. they can hit real hard and sound great at low levels too. i love them and would highly recomend them.

I would advise against the KFC-XR601's. I have a pair of KFC-XR701's (bigger bolt pattern - 6 3/4" for F-bodies) and they sound pretty . As for the second pair, I don't know.. I haven't heard them. But I know the first ones you mentioned, with the light weight DualMag's, are pretty nasty. They seem to have no low or midrange. They new smaller magnet just doesn't cut it. I have a pair of Excelon KFC-X167dB's which sound great however.

I like my Image Dynamics quite a bit, but theyre a bit on the bright side - however theyre some of the clearest speakers I've ever had.

My 4x6 JBLs are actually better sounding though IMO, theyre far more efficient. I am considering selling my Image Dynamics and trying some JBL's in their place

I've got two pair of Infinity Kappa 3-ways that I absoltely love. Oh look, I just said I love 3-ways! :D They're the older green ones with the injection molded quartz cones. They have great range and beautiful highs. I've had them in my car since 97 and they're still kickin just as loud and clear as the day I put them in. I'm probably going to switch to components this spring to help clean up the sound a little. That should also improve my bass response on the door speakers. I think Infinity hits the mark. They're a quality speaker without all the price. And they're part of the Harmon-Kardon group, the folks who own JBL.
