• Pioneer DEH-P77DH, now what about a CD changer?

Anyone have this receiver?
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn..._36629,00.html

I'm stuck between that and the Pioneer DEH-P77DH
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn..._33719,00.html

One of the only main differences seems to be the first one has one pair of 2V RCA preouts while the second has three pairs of 4V RCA preouts.
Are the preouts, a remote, and a multicolor LCD worth the difference in price?

I've got 47, but it doesn't fit screw in quite right in the radio hole of my 98. As to being worth the extra price - I dunno, thats your personal preference.

The remote is kinda stupid unless you listening to radio outside of your car a lot.

The preamps are only good if you're going to use them.

The multiple color display is only cosmetic...

One of the only reasons I'm looking at 2 DIN recievers is because they'll look fairly stock. The multicolor display would be nice if it had a nice pontiac red color. I rather not have all red lighting, and then only my radio be bright green.

I don't really care about the remote, but how much better are 4V preouts compared to 2V? I will be using one, but it might be nice to have a few more just in case.

I definetly need a reciever with a built-in crossover cause my old one isn't working properly anymore.

Anyone else have any comments?

A friend of mine has a 47 in his '98 Camaro and I haven't been impressed with it.

Its just seems lacking in everything to me.

Any specific cons?
I'm more worried about its quality, power, and functionality. Are there any problems with those?

Can anyone recommend any other GM (2 DIN) recievers?

High voltage RCAs are mainly used for noise rejection. The higher the voltage on the RCAs, the lower you will have to turn your gains up in order to receive the same power output. Having 3 sets of 4V RCAs vs. 1 set of 2V RCAs is worth a lot to me. But it might not be to someone not using several aftermarket amps. Oh, and have you checked Ebay? The 47 is only like $20 cheaper. I would easily spring the extra cash for the upgrade. And I personally, have owned several Pioneer head units. Not even one problem with them.

Oops, that's right - its Toyota, Nissan, & etc that are double din.

I've owned two other Pioneer HUs and a few sets of their speakers, and never had a problem. I just want to make sure I'm not paying too much for this just because its a specialty fit.

Thanks for the RCA info

Yes, 96firebird311 is right. You have to look at how many amps you are hooking up. I mean, some eclipse head units have 3 sets of 8V preouts, which allows you to hook up 3 amps and get really nice signal out of those three amps. 8V RCA preouts is like a crystal clear signal to the amps. But that kind of preout power is useless to someone using one sub. And some people pay for that feature and never fully utilize it.

Think to the future about where you want your system to go, and base your decision off of that.

Quality, well its a pioneer and its got the same good quality I would expect from pioneer.

Power, not a lot from my experience. It just doesn't seem like the internal amp has much power to it.

Functionaility, well it plays CDs and radio but its rather short on features.

I had the 47 in my Camaro for nearly 3 years now. I have only 2 small complaints with it.... the backlight (even when dimmed) is just a little too bright for me and you faintly see most of the digits and too much BS on the display (the bogus EQ curve and the crap under the O & T in the pic). It's been a good HU and has plenty of power for my 4 stock, crappy_*** paper speakers. ;) It required some modification to the car to make it fit (cut the plastic in the back that the stub fit into) but very easy to install and no special mounting kit was necessary.

Overall, I've been very happy with it!

P.S. The new ones support XM radio now! Crutchfield

Common for some of us fbody guys. This will not harm anything.

i have the 77 in my 98 Ws6, no modification whats so ever.

I am running all aftermarket amps so i don't care about the rating of the stock one.

The unit is clean, makes for a nice install, no ulgy install kit, and works with my steering wheel controls (due to the fact it uses a IR remote)

I actually have a second one of these units for $160 plus shipping out of my old grand am, didn't want to install an aftermarket radio in the wrangler, don't need to give theives a reason to hit it.

Is it fairly new? I've noticed the new ones are a little different than the older ones.

No thanks, I can probably get a brand new one for a little bit more. Thanks for the offer though.
