  • Adding 2 more subs question

Okay I'm running a JL10W3V2 in a stealthbox off of a 5 channel kenwood excelon on the sub channel. Went to subthump.com and admired their millhouse boxes so I can be stealthy with my system if I have to go to the city. Question is, if I get that box I would have to get a 2 channel amp, how would I wire that to the sub channel to get the most out of the system? The subs I'm looking for are still undecided thought I'd like to keep it the same I might opt for something that would keep my rear glass from shattering. I would love any information, or a search topic for me to look through because I'm lost and I want to know what I would be getting into before I started. Thanks

First give us a budget on what you want to spend on subs and amp.

Dont worry about your reat glas shattering i run 3000 watts RMS on my car and im far from shattering the glass.

A little confused on this sentence. You would have to buy a new amp, but not necessarily a 2-channel. And wire the new amp into the 5-channel's sub output? And if you haven't already, please read the stereo section in the modification encyclopedia.

What do you want to spend? You are not going to break the glass, I have not seen that yet in an f body. Mine flexed a lot but I was never worried about breaking it.

I'm not looking to spend more than around 500-600. 96firebird311 I was told about that 2 channel amp by a friend of mine that he just threw out there as a possibility, I'm probably just as puzzled as you are about that sentence. But since i'm running 1 sub off of the sub channel on my other amp would i have to just run all 3 subs on one amp or can i split it like that

You can run as many subwoofers as you want off a single channel.... they won't have very much power, but it's totally do-able. And yes, you'll want to keep them all the same size, brand and model. Also equal power across the three. A new amp is going to be a must. I bet your 5th channel doesn't output more then, say 200WRMS@2ohms? Not really worth it for three W3v2's. Count on $200-$250 for a new amp that'll do 1000WRMSx1.

Next issue. I have seen the picture on subthump that shows dual stealth boxes with the milhouse. Four subs in all.... my question to megabass. How much clearance is there between the stealth and milhouse box? Enough for the excursion of, a Type-R say? What are your personal thoughts on this design? Just curious.

So you are trying to spend no more than $600 on 3 12's and an amp right?

96firebird311: I would think their is enough clearance because the type r only moves what 12, 13mm max right?

I think it'd be great but I want to keep my spare tire, even with AAA at my disposal I've needed it on more than one occasion. Speaking of an alpine type-r? I havn't heard them. So then I would just jump from the kenwood to the other amp then running the 3 subs and put it in "bass mode" with the highs cutout and whatnot..

they're 10's firefighter, but if i could get 2 more w3's that would work too, unless they're not recommended for whatever reason

what voice coil configuration is the sub you have now ?

                      Most likely 4 ohm DVC

Not sure on the Type-R's xmax. And I was just throwing that out as an example. I have no idea how much room there is in between the boxes.

The W3v2 is a great sub and I think you should stick with them. Pick up a pair of those plus a strong mono amp and all wiring for just under $600.... wait .. is the $600 suppose to include the milhouse?

                              Happy B-day BTW.
