  • Adding Subs To Delco

Ok I did a search and I found some bits and peices but I need some more detailed help. I have a 95 camaro with a totally stock delco cd player stereo. I don't have the money to buy a new head unit at this time so I'm going to use the stock HU. I want to install 2 American Pro 12"s and an 800 watt amp (400 watts to each sub). I want to keep all four of the stock speakers running as highs (eventually i will get new door speakers and an amp for them, but not right now). Is there a kit that i can buy? Can you give me a list of what i need? and maybe a price? Someone said something about an RCA? How do I run the power line to the battery? Can you give me some details on how i have to hook everything up?
Sorry about all the questions but i need some info so i can install this system.
    Anything would help
    Thanks

You have two options for getting signal to the amp:

      1. buy an amplifier that has speaker level inputs. Splice the rear speakers into those inputs.

      2. Buy a LOC (Line Output Convertor) And splice the signal from your rear speakers to this unit. The output of this unit will be RCA line-level for any amplifier.

Getting power/remote signal to the amp is easy:
      POWER
      1. find a dual output terminal for your battery, or if you have a battery that accepts two different kinds of inputs, use the one your not already.

      2. run the appropriate sized wire from the + terminal to a fuse block as close to your battery as possible.

      3. find the grommet behind the PCM on the passengers side and run the wire back to your trunk through there.

      4. connect the wire to a fused distribution block and fuse the outputs you'll be using. You'll need one fuse for each component back there. (sounds like just an amp for now)

      5. Run the + wire from the distribution block to the amp.

      6. Ground the amp as close as possible by attaching a wire from the - terminal to the body of the car.

      REMOTE

The yellow wire behind your stereo (hooked to the stereo, of course) is the remote. Splice into this and be sure to run an inline fuse to protect against shorts. Run the wire throught the aforementioned grommet and back to the amp. No need to fuse it on this end.

      To sum up, You'll need:
About 20 feet of power wire (at least 10ga)
About 5 feet of ground wire (at least 8ga)
About 20 feet of remote wire (16ga is fine)
An inline fuse for the remote wire
      A terminator for the battery
A terminator for the ground wire
A fuse block for the battery
A fused distribution block for the components in the trunk
Fuses for all of it (duh)
Either: and amp with speaker level inputs OR an LOC.

That should be it. Have fun!

Well tomarrow I am having a system put in. My cousin is getting rid of all his car audio so I bought it from him. I'm getting 2 American Pro 12's, 2 American Pro Amps (One for the subs and the other for the highs), and all the wires and extras needed to install it. My cousin and his friend are going to install it tomarrow. I'm paying like $450-$500 with everything including installation. He also gave me a custom box that holds 2 12's earlier in the year for free so I figured It was well worth it.
