• Amp/Sub Install - Need Help

Ok, I have a Thunderform box with an MTX6000 10" sub. I had and RF amp but decided to upgrade and bought an MTX thunder4202 2-channel amp and planned on bridging it. I had somebody else install my amp and sub last time and wanted to do it myself this time. I bought an 8 gauge amp kit, with all of the power/speaker/rca cables etc. I also bought some extra fuses and whatnot. Anyways, I can't get any sound to come out of the sub and I dont know if its the amp or if im hooking it up wrong. The amp is getting power and the fuses look good so I know thats not the problem. I have the speaker cables bridged to the sub. I have a JVC KD-SX980 mp3 reciever and. I have tried plugging the rca cables into both the front and rear jacks of the receiver then into the amp and have connected the remote wire to the receiver. Is this how its supposed to be hooked up? I would like to get this finished sometime today so any help would be appreciated.

It should be hooked up to the rear preout. Maybe try turning up your gains on your amp and make sure the fader is set properly on your deck.

Also, make sure that the sub connections haven't came loose inside the box.

This is not an answer for no sound. Everything else mentioned should be checked out though.
What impedence is the voice coil on the woofer? (single 2 ohm, single 4 ohm....) Also, are you sure the amp is turning on? Is it going into protection maybe? Are you sure you bridged it properly? Most amps when bridged are only stable to 4 ohms....... get back to us and let us know what's up.

Well it looks like the amp is fried. The sub is working fine and I've tried everything I can think of to get the amp working. I tried hooking it up to 2 other sources (car and home theater) and couldnt get any sound. Should I send it back to MTX and get it fixed or just get my money back and get another amp? Right now my speakers (4 Pioneer Premier 6.5s and 2 6x9s in boxes in the hatch) are running of the receiver and but I had planned on getting an amp for those later on but now I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and get one now and a good mono or 2 chan amp for the sub (I also might be getting a stealth box for the passenger side). And suggestions for amps? I don't want anything booming, just enough for it to sound good.

Just send it back, get some money, and either buy another one or I can build you a cheap amp...

Check the ground. When we installed a sub in our Trooper recently, we didn't want to tighten the ground wire all the way b/c we wanted to move the sub location around to test sound(amplified sub). After getting everything hooked up the power light was on and everything but no sound. After tightening the ground all the way.... boom there was sound. :D
Not grounded = No sound.

You must of jiggled something while you tightened it.

Power light on = grounded complete circuit = should be sound. Tightening the ground furthur won't change anything...unless you jiggled the internal connections. Not trying to discredit you though

actually i just double checked w/ my brother who i put it in with... your right. Our problem was that the power light wouldn't come on at all until we grounded it permenantly--drilled the hole, etc. (didn't at first b/c we wanted to mess w/ location as i said). We were just holding the ground to metal which wouldn't do the trick... we had to put the screw through b4 we got power.
