  • Monsoon/Non Monsoon?

I just got a used Monsoon speaker for the drivers side backseat side panel off Fbody.com

Seeing as how my headunit says "monsoon", well i assumed it was monsoon and i didn't read any codes or whatever in my car manual. Point is, I took the old speaker out, and when i went to replace the new one, the connector is smaller and won't fit in the new speaker. And on the new "monsoon" i got, there's only 2 rods inside the connectors instead of four like the stock one.
    Was mine not monsoon?

If it's any help, the old part # was 16217721
The new "Monsoon" part # is 16235651

Kind of confusing how you worded some of that.

If you have the "Monsoon System" on your Firebird, the plug in the car (where the rear passengers sit) will have 4-pins...per side. The reason for this is because the Monsoon system uses Dual Voice Coil subwoofers on each side.

If the "new" speakers you bought only have the 2-pin plug, they are not the dual voice coil subwoofers. You probably bought the speakers for the doors, which only use a 2-pin plug.

The exact same speaker in my car was bad, it just sorta vibrates, even when I tested outside of the speaker housing. Anyway, i have it sitting in the garage and i went to look at it, it has 4 prongs and I know mine is a monsoon. Maybe the new speaker you got wasn't.

Well it sounds like NDA06 had it, the speaker where the rear passenger sits was 4 prong on my old one, but the new one had only 2 prongs. I guess the guy sent me the wrong one.

And Silverbird, that's why i needed to replace my old speaker, it vibrates horribly when the bass is up.

        WTF... 30$ down the drain...

He more than likely sold you "front door" 6-3/4" Monsoon speakers, which use a 2-pin plug. Keep it around in case those blow out.
