Uhh......no offense man, but 1000 farads? Are you planning on hauling a trailer that's twice the size of your car to hold that cap? Plus, you'll have to home-build it.....hope you don't kill yourself.

    :D I just gotta be a smart *** sometimes.... :D

Thanks man i think u have cleared everything up. appreciate your vast knowledge. anyone know any good sites for high output alt's?

get the alternator, caps are a waste of time and money, as for places for alts, try a search for a company called atlerstart I bought my 180 amp alt from them about two weeks ago, they come with a lifetime warrenty.
also make sure all your ground cables from your batt to the engine are up graded

I wasnt saying u should buy a 1000 farad amp for the car. But the limit of one is only as high as u want go to.

Edit But u know- now that I think about it, thats pretty pathetic that you are getting voltage drop with a 500watt amp, im runnin 1400 watts and not dropping more than a volt at full volume. Check ur battery.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I think the problem was my battery was going dead so the alt was having to work double time. I put a new battery in and the problem has gone away. I think i will do some homework on the capacitors could a get 2 farad, would that help? Ebay has some good prices

How about those 150 dollar batteries that are, i think gel batteries the ones with like 900-1000 CCA. Would this help the problem?

No. The reason they are rated in CCA is because that's how much juice it can put out to power the engine starter. The CCA rating has nothing to do with how much electricity it can store. When looking for a battery, check out the AH rating (Ampere-hours, how many amps it can put out for an hour). The higher, the more storage.

I'd say get a HO alternator. I think most people on the board will agree with me.

Like, I figured it was your battery. Im real big into physics so to me I understand the reason people use capacitors. I'll put it to you very simply cause everyone is using lame comparisons. ( Its like a bandade LoL! ) Think of it this way dood. The cap is for ONE ITEM. to make sure that one item gets power when it needs it. The battery and alternator are for everything. Think of the Battery as a Capacitor for the cars starter while the car is off. Idealy you would have a capacitor for every component in the car. and most every item has some kind of cap built in it. All electircal items do. Just remember the One item part of the capacitor and make ur own decision.

I would say get a capacitor because hey: if it doesnt work how you like it, you can take it back. ( most places ) an alternator and such is more perminate. Hope Ive helped. =) But I think I was the only person who sugested just check ur battery
