• help me design my system.....

Im sure most of u guys konw more about this than i do. SO here goes.

I have a 97 camaro with a basically stock sys. The only thing i have done is replaced the door spkrs with 6 1/2" clarion's and the car came with 2(one on each side) 1 1/2" tweeters over the door. IM lookin to spend about 350-500$ on the entire sys(u can go over in your desiging if u want, just keep it at a MAX under 650.
If this helps any i listen to Rock and hevy metal(MxPx, 311, Linkin Park, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Mest). I just want a good head unit, rear spkrs, and a sub(whatever u think it good).
(links to the items would be helpful or just gimme the general site if u could)
I was also considerin getting the trunk panels off a monsoon car and wiring up the 2 6"x9"'s in the back, know if this will work??

Thanks
matt

First off, don't bother with the 6x9's in the rear, they are worthless and they ruin the sound stage.....

Second, i assume that you want a HU too right? I say that anything Eclipse will never dissappoint. Eclipse has some good stuff, but they are expensive(mine cost me $450+tax alone). Kenwood is a good mid-priced brand, Pioneer is pretty good as well.

If you listen to rock a lot, then one sub should do you just fine. I say get a good 10" sub in like a stealth box or a regular sealed box and get a 300-400 watt amp to power it. Brand of the sub and the amp is really dependent on what you like. Rockford has some nice subs, so does Alpine and Eclipse. Xtant amps, or PPI, or Phoenix Gold are some of the better brands, but they can get kinda expensive. You might wanna try and buy some stuff used just to get a better deal on good stuff.

You get what you pay for in this business. Just keep that in mind when you're looking for gear and you'll be just fine!

Also, if your budget is really that tight, consider picking up some used equipment like amps and such and save your best $$ for a nice head unit and a decent sub. Listen to the Rev. when he says you don't need speakers in the rear sails. Anyway, I've seen lots of used stuff on these boards that I'd like to have myself, but I don't need any more stuff. Used stealthboxes are kinda rare, but you could get lucky there. I might be able to hook you up with a passenger stealthbox if you're interested. Just some pointers.

I personally feel my JBL 4x6s in the rear made a considerable improvement to my stereo - 6x9s dont fit under the grilles properly ANYWAYS...

But - back on topic - search sounddomain for something you can afford. The new DEI speakers are nice, but heck I love my CTX6 Image Dynamics (which are also on sounddomain).

I hear the Sony HUs arent very good - but my Clarion has never skipped a beat if that says anything, and its always been crystal clear and easy to use/read. For the money, I haven't found a better one (DRB4675).

Subwoofer wise - you need to know what you're doing (and 99.5% of everyone I've ever met does not) to get it to sound phenomenal. If you want some ideas as to what might go back there I'll be glad to talk to you and help - otherwise just pick what you think will work and hope it sounds good. I chose my 12W6 for a reason - but its for sale because I would like to go with (4) 8's back across the rear deck (I have my reasons... heh). The 12W6 Ive got is really kickass though so right now if nobody buys it I'll use it .

Goodluck on your soundsystem - you DONT need to spend TONS of cash to get something nice... and just be sure you buy all the connectors and adaptors you need for your stereo. I suggest checking walmart out for most of the adaptors and such - they seem to carry everything!
