Whats up guys, I just came back from my local audio dealer store and I saw the Kicker L5 and I was wondering will 1 L5 12in be louder than 2 Alpine type R 12in?
They sell the new L5 for $250 brand new and I can get the 2 type R for $148 at IKEsound.com
How much room you got to work with? A single L5 just might be louder then the two Alpine's in a vented design. Also, if you are already looking at the Alpine's online... why not the L5 or even an L7 online?
I am going to be puting them in my Camaro its a convertible so I think I have plenty of space for 1 12in sub.
What are some good web sites you recomend where I can find an L5 12in for cheaper? The L7 are just to pricy for me. I need a Dual 2ohm.
You could go with the older model to save a couple of bucks...or stick with the 2005 model. They also have a ton of refurbs on there if you're interested in saving cash. And you sure you don't have enough money for an L7? I couldn't find a single new dual 2 ohm L7 off Ebay, but here's one from another site. Same price you were gonna pay for the L5. And ikesound has the dual 4 ohm one for $210. You could e-mail them to see if they have the dual 2 ohm version for that price. Or if you want, here's a pair of dual 2 ohmer's. Keep one, sell the other right back on Ebay! I'm sure you would have no problem getting $200 for it. That leaves you with a new s12L7 for $150! Or if you really want to save cash, do the same thing with the refurb model. You could have a refurb 12L7 dual 2 ohm for 100 bucks! If I was tight on cash, I'd go that route. Spend 50 bucks on MDF, liquid nails, screws and carpet and have a ported 12L7 for $150. Can't beat that with a..... dual Type-R!
Ikesound.com does have the Dual 2Ohm L7 12in refurnished sub so I am thinking to go with them.
Does refurnished mean some one returned it back because there was something wrong with the sub and they fixed it. Do they make them look new again.
You said the dual type R would be no match for the L7. But will the refurnished 12in L7 sound louder then 2 12in type R? And does the L7 have any SQ?
ReFURBISHED could mean anything really. If someone buys it, opens the box and then returns it for any reason... even if they didn't use it... it cannot be sold as new. Or maybe it had a small scratch on the cone. So they returned it. The seller would return the sub to Kicker. Kicker would give the seller their money back. Kicker would throw a new cone on there and sell it as refurbished. Be it directly to a single person, or in bulk to a vender like ikesound. Chances are it's the same as new. It does come with a 90 day warrenty just in case something is wrong.
I never said that dual Type-R's sealed would be no match for a ported L7, but it should out pound them yes. Especially since you can now dump all the power onto a single sub. Does the L7 have ANY sq? Yes. It's not the worst thing out there, but it's no SQ sub by any means. Are you asking if it's going to sound like a$$? No. It's all in the box. Try 2.5cubes after port and sub displacement. The port being 13.25"x2.25" and 31" long. That should bring you to a grand total including wood thickness even... around 3.5cubes. Not as fimilar with the drop tops. Can you fit that back there? If you need to, we could probably cut it down .5cuft if needed. If you are having problems fitting that.... go with the Type-R's.
Well, I usually go out of my way so people DON'T hear me, but yes. I'm sure someone sitting next to you at a red light will notice that you have a little bump. ;) Going to get THEM? Who's them? You're just getting one L7 right? Or were you talking about the Alpines?
The solos get loud as crap in the proper vented box. I just sold my 12w7 and I am going with a solo 12.

L5 or L7 not sure yet. I will be using a vented box around 2.4-.7 cu ft.
