• ANL fuses

im running 0/1 guauge wire to my amp which has 3 30 amp fuses (1200 watts rms), my ANL fuse holder/voltmeter came with a 200 amp fuse, but obviously this is too much, but i cant find anywhere that they make 90 amp fuse, so im assuming i should get an 80 amp fuse for the front battery wire.. correct? its either an 80 or a 100.

also, i realize i probably only need like 4 gauge wire.. but will using 0 gauge hurt anything?

An 80 will be fine. You're not going to pull that much current unless something is wrong. And no, with wire, the bigger the better. Stock alt is 105 amps. Is that your only amp? You might see a little dimming. Hook it up and try it out. If it's too much, H/O alt it up!

thanks for the tips! i know you guys dont like caps, but i may get one instead of a H/O. i have this best buy gift card i need to put to use (only if the lights start to dim and such).

I have told you before, A cap is a bandaid and since it's not your money(gift card) its a waste of a good gift card. Buy some dvd's or some bass cd's with that money. If you upgrade the big 3 as you were told before, you shouldn't have any dimming problems. Like 96firebird311 said, the stock alt is 105 amps but, thats MAX and at highway speed, not at idle. If you need a cheap H/O alt, look on ebay, Thats where I got mine.

Your fuse question has been answered. Please don't argue here too.

i dont have money for an alternator. i dont watch movies and can download bass music for free. so if i need a cap, i can get it. i mean sure you guys dont like them, but it will be easier AND cheaper to buy one, than upgrading the big 3 and getting a HO alternator.

however, if you wana buy the gift card.. ill sell it to you for 75 bucks. (thats how much is on it)

id say you should put a 100 amp fuse on it...
that fuse is not to protect the amp... it is to protect the wire, and your car

the fuses in your amp are there for a reason...
sometimes the amp will need more than 80 amps...

and, i would say u should get a HO alt, to keep your amp safe

i have messed up 2 amps from underpowering them on my old car...

you get 105 amps at highway speeds... a good portion of that power is needed for everything in your car to run... not an extra amp... you should always have enough power for everything in your car...
risk damage, and a more costly repair

Electricians rule is to use the smallest fuse possible without blowing. The only time that amp may possibly exceed 80 amps is during test tones. And I'm really doubting that even. I'm currently running two Autotek XS1600.1's and a XS900.4 off a 150 amp fuse.

well my amp has 3 30 amp fuses, and im going to use the 80 amp ANL fuse for the battery wire to my amp like you suggested with my 0 gauge wires. this is the best thing i can do right?

I think the big 3 is easier than wiring up a cap. Both are simple but, I could probaly do the big 3 quick. You say you don't have money for an alt, well what if it dies? You buy one from a parts store for almost the same price as the one on ebay and just a note, they do come with a lifetime warrenty but, they will not give you another one if they find out/can prove you are overloading it.
