Im thinking of buying a power antenna for my 97 firebird, but i do not have the stock radio in my car, will the power antenna still work. Also how does the antenna work? does it go up when you turn the key? I also have a wiring harness under the spare tire panal on the passenger side, will i be able to hook the antenna up to that, or is that only for a shock sensor or the stock monsoon amp witch i do not have either one.

What headunit are you currently using? Chances are great that you have a dedicated power antenna wire.

The antenna will go up and down when the headunit is turned on or off. Keep in mind, this means that if your headunit powers off while you're switching CDs, the antenna will go down also. Kinda got on my nerves time after time, so I installed a toggle switch inline with the antenna power. Flip the switch when I want to listen to the radio. (rarely) Another plus of that is that the antenna isn't up and looking all stupid while I'm listening to CDs. MUCH nicer looking.

Not sure which model number you have, but after searching Panasonic's database I see they use the solid dark blue wire for the power antenna on every model I checked. Also noted that the antenna is triggered just when the radio is the selected source.

thats how mine is.. the antenna just goes up when i listen to the radio..which is never.. i think my car looks alot better with the antenna down goin down the road instead of up in the air

Yeah. Best thing about having the switch. Freakin Pioneer has the antenna up even when a CD is playing....
