  • Think it will blow? (Type R's)

I plan on running my first compition this June. I have no idea what this will hit for DB any opinion on that would help too..just ball park. I have 2 12" Type R subs in a vented box and 1 Alpine V12 mono amp rated at 1000 RMS. I was panning on running that, but i seen on ALpines sight, for compittions they run 1000 RMS to each sub. I have an Alpine 500 RMS amp too..do you think if i ran both of them to the two subs (just for the compition) that they would blow. (Type R max is 1000 watts)Thanks

Are you type R's 4-ohms per coil or 2-ohms per coil? What's the model number on the V12 1000-watt RMS amp? (is it the MRD-M1000?) You can't wire both amps "together" to run the subs. The only way you could use two amps is if they were both the same and if they powered 1-sub a piece.

If you have the dual (2-ohm) type R's, I'd wire the dual coils on each sub in series (creating a 4-ohm load) then wire both subs together in parallel (creating a final load of 2-ohms.) If you do have the MRD-M1000, its able to run 2-ohm's at 1000watts RMS.

If you have the dual (4-ohm) type R's, you could wire the dual coils on each sub in series (creating an 8-ohm load) then wire both subs together in parallel (creating a final load of 4-ohms.) Only thing bad with the dual 4-ohm type r's is you wouldn't be able to make the MRD-M1000 see 2-ohms. It would only be 500watts rms at 4-ohms on that amp. I think type r's are around 300watts RMS and 1000watts Peak. 1000watts RMS to each coil would more than likely blow them.

i would never run 1000W RMS to those subs. they will almost deffinately blow. Now around 500-700 each will be fine for a competition for those subs. Dont expect to win with that setup though. Alpines are not great SPL or SQ subs, they are good middle of the road style subs.

the subs are 2 ohm...I have both the MRD-M1000 and the MRD-M500. I didn't know if you i could use both or not..thoght you could splice the two wires together before I hooked it in the terminal(since they were the same brand and digital I was thinking you could set it so they dont cancel each other out or hit at different times, through delay). No huh? Kind of figured it would mess somethign up. It was jsut killing me having a $550 amp sitting around so i was wondering if I could use it somehow. Thanks alot for your help though.

yeah I know what you mean by wanting to splice both amps together at the terminal ... but it just won't work. Only way to use both of the amps would be if you were to power 1 sub per amp. (technically you can do but one sub will be receiving more power than the other so it's not worth doing). "If" you had 2 (single 4-ohm voice coil) 12" subs, then you could parallel them both together which would present a 2-ohm load to your m1000 amp. that would be 1000watts rms per sub that way.

With what you have now your best bet would be to use the m1000 amp and wire up your subs like the 1st example I mentioned in my 1st reply. Still a nice setup with lots of power with just that one big amp.

Thats how i have it wired...All I have to do is switch amps. Then I guesss...um sell my 500 lol. Thanks for your help man.
