I am by no means new to the board but this is my first post on the electronis ever. Okay here goes. What I want out of my system on my car is to atleast sound as good as the Monsoon. What speakers should I go with? Amp? Subs, maybe? I preffer to work on the speakers first. Maybe speakers with tweeters. Also, where is the best place to go? Circuit city, Best Buy, small local store? Any favorites or good experiences? You guys let me know since you are the experts. Thanks alot. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I always go to circuit city cause I went to high school with the guys that work there and they give me a discount. I have Infinity reference series 6 1/2's in front and back. They are 2 way. I have mtx's thunder 204 4way amp hooked to these and they sound awesome.2000 Camaro 3.8 v6 M5

Just about any aftermarket equipment on an amp will sound better then the monsoon, so you have nothing to worry about there. As far as what to buy... it all depends on how much you want to spend. For the most part, you get what you pay for. Just because an amp says it puts out 500watts for $49 doesn't mean it's a good deal. You have to know what you're buying before you buy it. That's why we're here!!! Also, do you have t-tops? Don't you plan to keep the t-top storage space? What type of music do you listen too? These all must be taken into consideration before you decide which direction you want to go.

I don't have t-tops and I like to listen to everything. I want a system where everything sounds good. I would say I have plenty to work with. How much boom are you really looking for? You said you want a system that sounds good with all types of music. That actually very easy to do, but the subs and the amps to power them are what cost the $$$$$$ I recommend 2 10's or 12's Alpine Type R's and a JBL 1200.1 to power them. Then I would get a a set of focal components for up front and a set of co-axils in the rear (cause i like "rear fill" [img]smile.gif[/img] ) powered by a 4 channel amp. Do you already have a CD player? For a CD player.... pick one. A lot of companies make head units and many are very cheap. Just don't buy some knock-off brand like Rockwood or whatever and you should be good. That's right around $1500.....Post with your thoughts!! [img]smile.gif[/img]

Thank you for all of the feedback guys I think that last one hit some stuff on the nose from what I have researched and heard around the block. Is it worth buying a an aftermarket deck/cd player??? It seems silly to me to buy another cd player when the car has a decent one, then again the car also has speakers which is what I wanna replace [img]graemlins/dunce.gif[/img] . Yeah, I want a sound system that plays from rock to rap and sounds good. Howdy from Houston, Birds and 'Maros!
Just bought a 2001 Camaro and will be doing some replacing of the stock speakers myself in the next few paychecks. Already sold on the JL Stealth...
Just wondering about basic instructions for removing the stock speaker grills for the upgrades, or do I have to start tearing into the doors and panels?
Any info would be appreciated - websites, images or emails!

The back speaker grills should just pop right off. The fronts are a little more difficult. You have to remove the entire door panel. But don't worry, it's easier then you think. Just remove a few screws, lift up, and out. To replace.... do in reverse order!
