  • alternator wires

    i got a HO alternator and i need 4 gauge wires. i have some monster cable ground wire thats 4 gauge. will this work? (for the big 3 wires)

    Any 4awg wire should work, just watch the colors and don't get them mixed up.

      what do you mean? also, will the old terminals work or will i need to buy new ones?

          Geez. I've never seen anyone ask so many questions about the big 3 upgrade. Especially when installing a H/U with a wiring harness is more difficult. [img]tongue.gif[/img] 4awg is plenty fine and I say the old terminals are fine too.

                  ok cool. i read on the sounddomain sticky that you should.. anyways.

                  what is the third wire that i need to upgrade? ive got the battery neg. to ground, and battery postiive to alternator done. the third is supposed to be the engine block to chasis right?? but what wire is it?? thanks. (a pic would help if you got it)

                      do you have a picture?

                      there is only 2 different cables coming out of my alternator.. the positive going to battery then the lil clip thing that just pops in on the side.

                          You won't find a ground "wire" for the alternator because the alternator uses the mounting bracket/engine block for the ground. Install a 4-awg (or thicker wire) from somewhere on the engine block or even the alternator bracket itself and attach the other end of the wire to the car's chassis. Just look for a large bolt on the side of the engine or use one of the bolts that holds the alternator bracket on.

                            nda- youve helped me better than anyone on any post. i dont know if its that you actually know what youre talking about more, or just word it better, or that im stupid.. but thanks..
