  • which way should my sub-box go??

ok so i have a 3.5 cubic ft. box w/a plexiglass window and i need your opinions on which way looks the best/would sound the best:

1)sub is down firing, plexi glass window is towards the front:

2)box face up, but plexiglass window is facing the back:

    3) sub is face up, plexiglass window facing front:

ok so ive decided i kind of want the plexiglass window going towards the front cuz the box has LED's in it to light it up. the only thing about the downfire is that i have to have the box sit up higher than the box in the picture because the sub has to be able to breathe (that and it has a 3 inch excursion). the downside of having the 3rd option (sub up, window forward) is that the box takes up a lot more room and hits the backs of the seats..

what are you thoughts? either way ive gotta build the "platforms" of wood to put under the box tonight. so what are your ideas?? thanks

i guess i have another option as well, to sell the box and build another one that would fit better, and go all the way across the sides, and fit the back better.

Rule of thumb is to have subwoofers facing the rear of the vehicle and be as far to the rear as possible. What's wrong with the well area?

You should have a new box made.

there box doesnt fit in the well area. also, why should the box face the back? and be far back as possible?

i really wana try and make this setup work, but a new box might have to be what i do :(

I have subs in my car right now in that same situation...for some reason they hit alot harder when they face the frount rather than when they face the rear of the vehicle...is there a good explanation for that? I tried verticle too and it still hits alot harder when they are pointed directly at your back, they hit cleaner and crisper too.

Your going to face the sub down in a box that was designed to down fire therfor the sub will more than likly hit you floor during its excursion. Like I said, I would just buy another box. If you must use that box I would go with #2. Check out www.subthump.com

nah im going with number 1. im making the platforms on either side of the sub up really high to cover the 3" excursion.
