I need one for this summer when i'm driving across canada by myself. More for just finding out about speed traps and to get help if i break down. My requirements are:
1. Easy to install
2. Cheap
3. Works real good
I was thinking about one of those that look like a walkie talkie but they don't have real good range from what i hear.

I've got a Uniden and it seems to work well. I got it at Best Buy as an open item. Here's the trick with CBs. It's the antenna that makes all the difference. I had a 2.5' whip with a magnet base for a while. But due to wind resistance, it would fall off the roof at highway speeds (this is when you need it most to find the fuzz). So I got a 1' shorty that was a little thicker. But I lost a lot of reception. There's a reason the truckers have those big fishing pole looking things mounted to their mirrors.
Hope this helps.

A really good CB to get would be a galaxy. But their kind of on the pricey side. I'd say a Cobra or Uniden would be the way to go. I agree with Harbin about the antenae. You'll be able to talk much farther and pick up more with a bigger antennae, but it's more difficult finding a place to put it or mount it. What would help alot would be a linear. There hard to come by and expensive though. But with a decent antenna and radio you should be able to talk as far you need to.

A CB is all about the antenna. I'm no expert, but from my experience, ideally, a 6 foot whip is needed for best performance. The main thing that sucks about our cars is that they don't have any metal for a magnetic mount antenna or a NMO mount antenna. And I cannot find a thru-the-glass antenna designed for CB radios anywhere - and to be honest, a TTG would probably not work too hot performance wise.
I put a cheapo in my car when I moved across the state last summer and when I finally got an antenna mounted into the inside of the rear metal quarterpanel, the performance of it was horrible. It would receive from truckers and the CB in my truck (which has dual 4' fiberglass antennae mounted on the mirror) if it was 1/4 mile away or less, and it would transmit about 100 yards.
what ever cb u get u have to get it peeked/tuned..
i drive trucks and it will help... try to make a plate.. and put it on your rear wing with some zip ties.. the antenna it your life line to the world... zip the antenna the the plate also a lot of wind back there..
good luck

I saw an fbody once that had the antenna mounted on the trailer hitch ball. It was like 8 feet tall. It might look funny, but it probably would work well.
I've got a Cobra 75WXST CB Radio installed in my car. I took the load spring and antenna off of a magnetic mount and installed it in the factory antenna location. With a PL259/FM adapter, I was able to use the stock antenna mount. I ran the coax along the passenger side to the center console where the base unit is hidden. I bought a hidden antenna from Rat-Shack to replace the FM radio antenna. It tapes to the windsheild behind the plastic... works better than factory!
The Cobra 75WXST CB Radio is not the best in the world but when it comes to fourth gen F-Bodies, your choices are VERY limited and this one requires no mounting! ;) All the controls are in the handset and the base unit is very small and easily concealable under the center console. The only complaint I really have about this radio is the poor squelch tuning... it seems it's either on or off, even though it has a squelch tuning dial.
I've got my SWR's down to near 1:1 but due to the poor quality antenna and the PL259/FM adapter, transmission range is limited to about 1 mile. Reception is around 3 miles on a good day. I'll post pics as soon as I can get around to taking them in the daytime.
P.S. My antenna setup has stood up (well.... leans WAAAY over) to speeds in excess of 125 MPH! ;)
