  • Subs and amp work with stock radio?

Will 2 subs and an amp hook up to the stock cd player that is in my 2000 Firebird. No it doesn't have the Monsoon System in it. Would I have to get some sort of thing to plug in the back of the radio to make it work. Does the factory radio have everthing that I need to hook up and amp to. Any help would be great.

Yes, it would work but you would need to connect into the ignition wire which I believe is solid red usually for a 12 volt turn on wire for the amp and. Then you would need to convert your speaker out puts to rca's which I believe your local audio shop should be able to get in or even have on hand. I’m not quite sure what exactly it’s called though but they should know what you are talking about. All in all it would be easier just to get a aftermarket head unit, and it would be more resourceful then the stocker... up to you though

Applies with the monsoon or non-monsoon.

Ign wire? What for? Please read through the entire stereo section in the mod encyc

yup, just need a rca convertor. I did this to mine and it works great. I went to best buy and bought one. Then I just wired it off of the back speakers in the hatch so I didn't have to run the wire throughout the whole car. Just need it from the two back speakers.

I think mine was like 10 bucks or something, it was like 1-2 years ago. But they should be around 10 bucks for one. It is just a little box that converts them over to RCAs

Does this RCA converter have wires where you have to wire them in or does it plug into the back of the radio? My friend gave me one that has a black ground wire and then 4 other wires. 2 are grey and the other 2 are white. Thanks

The RCA converter does not "plug" into the back of your radio. The 2 grey and 2 white wires are the speaker (hi-level) inputs. The black wire is more than likely a ground.

You have to wire the input wires on the RCA converter (the 2 grey and 2 white wires) to the speaker outputs on your factory head unit. You can either pull the head unit out and gain access to the factory speakers wires or remove the rear speakers to gain access to the factory speaker wiring that way.

defenately, get aftermarket headunit if you care about quality sound. but if u only want just to pound some subs go ahead. i had amp and sub connected with stock radio. i did encounter few problems like everytime you shut the door you will hear thud noise from sub, bass is not clean, also with my camaro headunit subs would pound the same way(you can turn up the volume to highest the same way it would pound if you turn down the volume to the lowest)so it was annoying. With a very cheap aftermarket headunit you will get 2v preout but with your stock headunit it's lot less than that :( . so, sound is not clean to the amp. Hey it's just my opinion ;)

An aftermarket HU will give you more possibilities for ugrading in the future and is totally worth the 100+ bucks for one. Just ask us which ones we have had luck with before you buy one (sony and newer alpines suck). You will also get much better sound quality from a decent quality aftermarket HU.

Well the reason why I was asking about this is becasue my dad doesn't want to put a aftermarket HU in the Firebird, so I was going to go this route. I don't know what to do. I'll have to talk to him again and see what he says. Also what are some good aftermarket HU that you guys have had luck with in these F-Bodies? Thanks

any headunit will work with f-bodies. All you will need is an adapter. I have a alpine CDA-9815 and i bought it for $550 with warranty. This headunit is amazing. It has all the options. I will encourage you to buy pioneer, alpine or eclipse. You won't be disappointed. hey t-punk, you said newer alpines sucks. what u mean? i know they look ugly as h*** .
