I have a 96 firebird and purchased the car used. The rear speakers, that is the ones in the rear hatch/cargo area had been removed only dangling wires remain. What size/style speaker goes there. I have the monsoon system and would really like to bring it back up to eight speakers again. Obviously, the previous owner "modified" it with either a rear trunk cab or sub-woof tube or something of the like....anybody got any ideas
Thanks and blessings!
You really think I ought to just "let it be" as the Beatles once said, huh? It appears that the original owner chunked them out of the car and opted for some other modification as you can see that the wires from both channels (L+R)had remnants of tape and solder on them. It led me to believe me that he(she?) had them rigged to some kind of aftermarket cab. Do you think that location would be good for some kind of sub-woofer?
That's exactly what I found when I bought my used 02 Firebird. Someone had removed the speakers in the hatch area but the factory wires and plugs were left laying loose and lonely. I personally don't plan on replacing them since they are so far back there.
However, if you wanted to and since the wiring is already there, you could replace them if you wanted. I see them all the time on Ebay fairly cheap so they should be easy to find. I think a tweeter and a small 4" woofer is what goes into each panel. They may add a little more "fuller" sound so to speak but nothing that will make you go "wowwww."
Nick-

nah im running about 1000 RMS, they only handle 500 RMS..
And plus that amp is under rated it acutally puts out more than 1200.

Hey Nick!
I am really just trying to get the car all put back like it was. It has the Monsoon system which is plenty meaty for my tastes. My kids just love the car and always bring along CD's or tune in their favorite station. I knew the speakers had to be kind of funky shaped because there really isn't a lot of room in those flimsy little kick panels back there. I think the 4"oblongs were used in the rear deck of my 78 and 80 Olds Cutlass Supremes.
By the way...does anybody know whether the radio station/CD track readout, or the large display on a Monsoon dash unit is lit by a backlight bulb that is user accessable? Mine seems to have given up the ghost. I navigate stations by remembering presets...a real pain!
Thanks again to all for the good info!

their bulbs i think, i know for sure there is a How To fix it in the FAQ part of this web site. Seems like that is pretty common problem.
Yeah I can understand wanting to get the car back to what it originally came equipped with. Kind of a shame to not use the full potential of the Monsoon system; regardless what others say about it. Are the plugs still there or are there just bare wires?
Sounds like you had the same "butch and hack" installer as I did. Though the plugs are gone you can still use the wiring. Use this color code chart to figure out which wire is positive and negative and to determine which wires go to the tweeter and to the little 4" woofer. Monsoon color codes
Also found an auction going on now with someone selling the speakers you need. He's selling the entire panels with speakers but he said he will just sell the speakers if needed. Speakers on ebay
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
