FM reception can be greatly affected by a bad antenna or antenna cable - poor crimp, corrosion, etc...
To test, you'll need a multimeter that can test resistance and some pretty long leads.
Unplug the antenna connector from your deck and touch one lead of your multimeter to the grounding pins on the side of the connector. Then touch the other lead to a good solid chassis ground. If all is OK, you should see less than 2 ohms of resistance. If this checks out, move on.
Touch one lead to the center pin of the antenna connector and the other lead to the actual antenna mast. If OK, you should see less than 5 ohms of resistance. If not OK, you may need to replace the antenna.
I had a Mazda truck with a busted antenna, so I got a brand new replacement and swapped it out and my FM reception sucked. Tested it and the center pin to antenna mast was showing 37.9 ohms! Turned out it was a bad antenna connector, went to Radio Shack and got a new end for it and BINGO went to 3.6 ohms and I got great FM reception.
Try it out.1995 Camaro 3.4L A4<br />Check out my other ride. <a href=\"http://www.sounddomain.com/ride/820732\" target=\"_blank\">www.sounddomain.com/ride/820732</a>
