if your going to go ported you just cant go buy a box.

The box has to be tuned to the subs. If you want to go ported then you have to go get a box custom made to match the specs to your kicker subs.

If you just want to keep is simple then go with a sealed, the bass is tight. Oposed to a vented/ported design you get boomier bass.

I my self run a ported box.

Also make sure the box is made out of MDF material as it is the best.

MDF is the best bang for the buck. There are a couple of materials that are better overall for subboxes, but $$$$.

Well one place I went to yesterday had a vented box for $80. I called a place today and they wanted $300 for a vented box. Talk about a huge price difference.

they have to be vented to YOUR sub type/series.

You're still taking a chance by buying any old random ported box. Like others are saying, the box needs to be built and tuned specifically to your subs.

Take for example a guy looking for a suit. For the absolute best possible fit, the suit needs to be "custom made" to fit just right. Since everyone's body is built/proportioned different, a "random" (non-custom made) suit just isn't going to look the same.

The same theory can be applied to speakers and boxes. That is why speakers have specifications known as "Thiele/Small Parameters." These parameters can then be entered into a program which calculates complex formulas, which in term tells you what the proper air space of a box needs to be and what diameter and length a port needs to be. You're better off building your own box or have someone like Megabass build one.

well I talked to the guy about the $300 box and he showed me the sameone that I found at the other car audio shop...... I just dont have $300 to spend on a box and the place with the $130 and the $300 boxes are the only reputable car audio places in my area so I dunno what to do.

what exactlly goes into tuning the box?
