I would like to replace the speakers on my 97 Camaro, but keep the stock receiver/CD player. I was told they are all 6.5" but it looks different. The front speakers I didn't take out, but look like 6.5"or 6.75" The ones next to the rear seats are 6.5" but only seem to be woofers(one of which in not working). And in back by the hatch, the grill looks big enough for a 6X9 but when I took it out, it looks like a 5" and room for a 2.5" next to it. What's up with that?
What should I get to upgrade this system?

The fronts and the ones behind the driver/passenger seats are 6.75" but most any 6.5" will fit. Toss the ones in the hatch area, totally destroys imaging in your car..... unless, you can drive from the beakseat! How much are you looking to spend for new speakers?
I found a deal on the Alpine SPR-174A "Type R" 6.5" speakers. I have 2 pairs on the way. Will they fit without adapters? Should I really disable the hatch are ones?
Thanks,
MIKE

Rather than begin a new string, I thought I'd piggyback onto this one (since my question is basically along the same lines).
I have a '99 Camaro that came equipped with the Monsoon system. The front door speakers were blown, and when I went to replace them with 6.5" speakers, I noticed the extra set of power leads going into the speakers. It would appear that the factory speakers were components with an extra set of leads for the tweeter.
Anyway, I have a midrange speaker hooked up to the front door, and I left the extra lead with easy access. So, can anyone suggest a pair of tweeters and a location to put them? I am thinking about trying to squeeze them into the upper corner of the doors (in the plastic triangle of trim that covers the mounting screws for the side view mirrors).
Any advice would be appreciated. Is there room to mount them in the front windshield supports? If so, where?
