  • radio fades in and out while playing cd

    I have a stock headunit with cd player in my 98 firebird and i wanted to know why it fades in and out. it did it once before when i was playing the radio and it sounded like the reception was bad... but this morning i was playing a KMFDM cd and it just faded out (but it was fine later on)... I dont have a monsoon system (it doesnt say monsoon on it so i assume its just a regular delco one). Any ideas what is up?

    BTW i am replacing the rear stock speakers this weekend.

    Maybe you have a short somewhere? Does it look like the headunit is shutting off, or is it just the sound that is cutting out?

        The (stock) headunit doesnt shut off or blink or anything. it fades in and out sorta like a bad radio reception... kinda like fades out from the left or right... but it hasnt done this for about a week now. Not sure whats up but pretty soon i am going to get a new headunit and speakers.

          Id say to check the wiring of ur door speakers, sometimes the wires come loose and the window grabs them. if a speaker wire touches the car or 2 wires from speakres touch it will cause the system to fad to no volume as a protectant. This happened to me, if u catch it right when uit happens and sping the volume nob up FAST, and the system holds volume or raises then it is as I have stated.

            I've never heard of it fading. Cutting in and out, but not fading in and out. Sounds like the HU may be bad

              Well guys I might just put in my Aiwa headunit from my other car and just leave it as that... or just get another headunit. No rush though cause it doesnt do it all the time.

                Don't the stock stereos do that when the volume get's too loud or the bass gets too deep? My old stocker used to do that. Not like a bad fade out but just a mild decrease in volume.

                  I think you're right. Before I changed everything over in mine, I had the Delco-Bose system in my car, and it would do that whenever it got too loud.

                    '97 and early '98 model Camaro's Monsoon head units simply said "Delco Electronics" just like the non-Monsoon systems. Check your door codes to find out if you have the Monsoon system:

                    ULO = Monsoon Cassette HU

                    UNO = Monsoon CD HU

                    U1S = 12 disc changer
                    Red 96' A4 Firebird
                    Audio Audio and Autotek
                    Check it out here!
