My 97 Camaro has a stock AM/FM/CD with 6 speakers: two 6.5" in the doors, two 6.5" beside the rear seats and two 4" by the hatch. In a previous post, someone suggested replacing the forward 4 and disabling the hatch ones.
Today I went install my 4 new Alpine SPR-174A "Type R" 6.5" speakers with external crossovers. I removed the backseat side ones and put in a new one. I turned on the radio and I could hardley hear it. It seemed like all bass too? Is there a crossover that sends only bass to this position? Do the rear hatch ones only get mids and high range then? What am I missing here?

PS: where I can find out which of each pair of wires is positive and ground?

    Thanks

    MIKE

    Here's what I did:
The front door speakers had two sets of wires going to each. My new speakers have separate connections for high and low range and a external crossover. I removed the crossover and connected the high/low wires to the high/low inputs. Seems to work.
The side speakers were 6.5" woofers with only low frequency sent to them. I disconnected that.
The rears were 4" full range so I took that wire up to the side speakers and connected the crossover on the second set of new Alpines.
The 4" rears are still installed, but not conected.

I put in The Wall by Pink Floyd and tested the system out. I LIKE IT :D

So, did I do it right, wrong or something new altoghter?
