  • $1500 through insurance

Some of you know I had everything stolen from inside the car. Finally my insurance is giving me $1500 of their money for replacement at their cost. The only issue I'm having is what to do with it. I was looking at going with 2 12's (rockford p3's) and a hifonics titan 1000x1. Got a quote of 250 from my local sound shop for a rear box for the 12's because they won't let me use subthump for the box. As for the radio itself I was stuck between the pioneer 960mp and the 5700dvd. Anyone have any other recommendations. If I were to go with the dvd I believe I'm $200 over but I have to spend all 1500. So any infomation or problems that you've had with rockford subs or if someone recommends a different woofer/amp I'd like to know what your ideas are.

Why won't they? Can you only spend your insurance money at this particular shop or are they cutting you a check? If you choose to pay 250 for them to build you a box (which is pretty high considering it only costs roughly 50 dollars at best in materials...plus they probably use scrap pieces from other projects. And for labor..say 100 bucks, that's still only 150 or so) Anyways...it better be built to specs for the subs you're using and made out of MDF. If they mention particle board for 250, laugh in their face. You should build it yourself and save a ton of money but that's your decision.

First, are they cutting you a check for $1.5k? Or are they just going to pay your local shop? Because a pair of 12" P3's and a 1500WRMS Titan would only run you $450 new. $250 for a box is a little pricey. I'd look around first. Then question the hell out of whoever is cheapest. I ran the 940mp for a few years. Loved it. Guess it depends on two things. #1 you have the money to blow? #2 do you really wanna watch DVDs? Keep in mind that full motion video MUST be out of the drivers view while the vehile is in motion. Let a cop drive by and see that in your car. Ticket for that AND a fine for over-riding the safety feature on the headunit..... and that's best case scenario. What do you think happens if you cause an accident because your watching the screen? You may say you won't watch it now... but wait until you have to look at it everytime you want to press a touch panel button....

If he's just getting a check cut, he can buy online.

I'm not getting a check cut though. I have to get 1500 worth of stuff through my insurance company. Since I didn't have a rider on my policy I was given 1500 in direct replacement coverage after depreciation. 1500 was the maximum amount of coverage w/o a rider, I wound up getting because of the higher retail value vs what I actually payed from ebaying my stuff.

EDIT: After seeing that ebay auction though I am tempted to buy those woofers and then use the money through my insurance company for an amp. Firebird what would you suggest to push those 2 woofers?

There was nothing wrong with the amp you had previously selected. 1000WRMSx1@1ohm. But what else does your local shop sell? Maybe got some extra cash for something a little higher end?

Is the Hifonics going to be fine running at 1 ohm pushing max rms all the time? That was the only thing that concerned me about the Titan.

If they aren't giving you a check, how are you getting 1500 worth of stuff through your insurance company? Do they only deal with this "shop" you're talking about?

No I get the items at their price, the shop that I'm talking about is the shop I went to when I first started putting stereo stuff in my car. Apparently they're a little over priced for a 2 12'' box for the rear, but I want to be able to put my amp underneath of it hidden away so you can't see it so either they quoted me high for a regular box they can order or its something special that I'm missing. The actual company I'm getting the stuff through is called first choice solutions so I can get almost anything at whatever price they get it at.

Okay, I'm finalizing the deal Thursday. Pioneer DEH-80MP headunit, (2) Rockford Punch stage 3's 12", Qlogic 2x12" rear well enclosure, and a Rockford T10001BD amp. Installed. I don't think I made out too bad and theoretically it should be louder than the 3 JL W3's @ ~900w rms.
