  • damn factory speakers...

i have Infinity speakers in my doors, and they're great. i have the stock speakers in the back seat, and they're crap. they sound ok, but the wiring is ****. just today, both backseat speakers cut out on me. i'm not an electronic genius, so what can i do to fix this (short of ripping both speakers out and replacing them with better ones)?

are you asking how to fix a wiring problem without opening up the sails to get to the speakers?

By the way, if they're cutting out at the same time, then it's not a loose connection -- it's a problem with the amplifier.

i'm not sure what the problem is....they cut out, then come back on occaisionally if i hit a bump or something. while they're on, it sounds static-y. they worked fine when i bought the car, but they just recently started to act up.

sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Again, if it's a single speaker that's cutting out, then I'd check the wiring at the speaker posts and at the amplifer. If both rears are cutting out at the same time, then it sounds like a bad connection in your amplifier's internals.

It sounds like it's time for a new head unit.

In a standard (IE Non-monsoon) system, all four speakers are 6.5 inch diameter speakers.

I have this same problem. I installed a Pioneer headunit using a nice wiring harness and everything works fine EXCEPT the speakers in the sail panels. This happened to me before on a 94 firebird and I took it to a car audio place and they fixed it, except now i moved far away from that place and im fuxored with my 98 Firebird :(
