• Got new job!!! Stereo is a commin!!

Ok so this is my plans.. i know nothing about stereo equip so i always tried not to post in this forum.. but lets see if u can't teach this dog some new tricks!!

Here is my plan:

Headunit - either a 1.5 din hu or a 1din hu with .5 eq. Probably just go with the 1.5 hu.. i want something stock looking nothing exotic.

Front Speakers/ Mid Speakers: I want to go with JL audio components just cause I heard components are the best. Anyone want to explain why? And is this position good for them?

Rear Speakers: none.

Subs: Two jlw3s or w6s 10''.

amp: not sure haven't looked at what would power the subs and the speakers! Any suggestios?

I am going to buy this peice by peice and do it right the first time. So help a brother out..

oh and i'm getting a subthump box

I won't address the headunit issue as I don't know anything about quality 1.5 DIN headunits. However I have an eclipse and they are very nice (1 DIN).

Components (at least quality ones) are much better than 2 or 3 ways. The crossover is usually seperate from the speaker and of much higher quality. Also the tweeter does not get in the way of the woofer and block alot of sound. I put my Boston Acoustic seperates in the door. The woofer went in the stock location and the tweeter in the front of the arm rest.

Brands -
MB Quart
Boston Accoustic
JL Audio

Subs - good choice on the subs. I only do JL's for subs. However there are other good ones.

Amp - JL Audio makes a great amp. as done Precision Power and Extant. JL makes a nice 5 channel amp. 100x2 (front), 25x2 (rear), 250x1(sub). I know you said no rear however this amp has 25 watts just enough for some rear fill without yanking your soundstage to the back of the car. No I dont' work for JL but I do like their stuff very much.

My 2 cents (actual retail value may vary)

I second his opinion of buying an Eclipse HU. They have amazing sound quality!! However, they are only a single DIN unit and won't look 'stock.'

Alpine sells a 1.5 DIN HU that's pretty nice, it's flashy as hell though. It has the usual Alpine quality and features. It runs like $450+ retail, the same you pay for a good Eclipse unit.

JL makes some good amps. The key here is buying the right brand of amp. Many manufacturers have excellent reps like JL, Xtant, PPI, and Phoenix Gold. Find an amp that fits your budget and needs, but make sure it is a quality peice.

I go with some Focal, or MB Quart comps for the from. If you want some rear fill the kicker 6.5c is a good mid-bass speaker.

Above all, AVOID the low-mid end Sony stuff at all costs!!

just my .02 cents

What is a stereo map? And what exactly do you need help with? By the way, do plan on installing all this yourself or having a shop do it for ya?

i am sure I can install it myself. I've helped my friends with their car stereos. Else I have a friend at a local audio store to help me.

the map thing where you have a pic of the headunit and a line going to the speakers and then the amps and stuff like the routing of the wires.

If you need help picking out stereo stuff let me know. I've done amazingly(quality and low cost) well with both of my cars.

I've also done some really good custom amp racks.

lol thnx for the help and comment! Recently i've become a post whore.. but I start my new job soon so u can catch up.

Megabass is going to make me one of his new boxes and we are going to custom it with some amp racks But we'll get pics of that when I order it or something.

I'm going to do it right the first time. It must have good sound quality with that hard hitting bass to shake the neighbors cat off the roof.

So what do you guys suggestion for hard hitting sound quality? Am I on the right track with getting JL stuff?

If you want a stock look for the head unit, but good quality, go with a Nakimichi.
