  • Damn SS spoiler LED doesn't light correctly.

I've been search all night for an answer, and I know theres a few topics on this but I haven't foudn an answer to my situation. I installed the spoiler. And the light does come on when I turn the lights on but when I go to brake the light shuts off. I've heard people say that when they brake the light just doesn't glow brighter, but not shut off. So the search continues. This is how I wired it up btw. There are 2 yellow wires and 2 black wires going to 2 bulbs. I stipped one of the yellow and black splices off so all that is left are the main yellow and black wires. I then wired the yellow to the power on the light and the black to the ground. The light does work, but then I press the brake and it shuts off. What is the deal?

Did you wire it into the 3rd brake light circuit, or just your side brake light circuit? GM placed the 3rd brake light and the side brake lights on two separate circuits for some god forsaken reason (dunno if it's different with a bird, but that's how camaros are). It sounds like you spliced into the side lights and it's just running with your tail lamps, as you depress the pedal it's switching into the brake bulbs on the side, but has nothing to switch to on the LED?? That's what I'm understanding from your description. Anyways, on my car the 3rd brake light is, I believe, a light blue wire(+) and a black (-) wire powering the 3rd brake light. I'd try rewiring your led using those wires as your power source. You can follow those wires the full length of the car in case any connections are loose. It goes from the relay beneath the brake pedal, under the driver side floor panel, up the drivers sail panel; then it meets up at the dome light in the back and continues to travel down your hatch on the drivers side into the spoiler to the light. Hopefully you just wired it using the side brake wires. So look and see if you can find a light blue wire in there to splice into. If it's a loose connection, then good luck, it's a tedious task going over all the connections to find the problem (I know from experience). If you need more help, I'll see if I can possibly find a way to scan the wiring diagram, but I'm pretty sure you just need to find the light blue wire for the 3rd brake light. I hope that all made sense...

Hmmmmm, not so sure now. I had the whole car apart while I was painting so I could've possibly overlooked something, maybee the ground is loose underneath the headliner. But this is what it looked like. There is a connector on the hatch that goes into the spoiler. I took the light out and it has 2 bulbs that go into the 3rd brake light. It has a yellow and a black wire. However, each wire is spliced with another yellow and black wire for that 2nd bulb. I figured I wouldn't need to split up the power so I ditched the splices and used the main wires and just connected power to power and ground to ground. It's weird that it doesn't come on when the brake is pressed down. I don't see anything else I could mix it up with. The side lights are in the trunk area compartment and aren't anywhere near the hatch. But i'll check over all the connections make sure i did everything right. I'm also gonna try to find the old brake lights wire them back up and see how they are working, maybee i'm missing something. Thanks for your help though, if anyone thinks of anything else please let me know.

That's kinda how mine was. I failed inspection back in march b/c of mine not working. I just went over the connections and it magically came back on, no idea what caused it to, but I'm not complaining. Try with using a multimeter to check if power still goes to those two wires when someone depresses your brake pedal. And just follow the connectors back till you find a spot that does/doesnt get power to see what's causing the problem.
