WTF is up with the Dome light?

I want to make the switch over to LEDs. I found replacements for the map lights 212-2.

The parts manual says the Dome light bulb is a 906.
But a 906 bulb looks like this.

and the Actual bulb in the dome light looks like a 212-2 without the metal caps on each end. Just little wire loops on each end. So I put a 212-2 in the dome position and I blow a fuse.

WTF?

Does anyone know what part number it really is? Does anyone know why it blew my fuse?

Well...after further investigation. The part number is 562. (rigid loop) style.

I still don't know why it blew a fuse though

The one I replaced it with has these specs.
212

They show to have the same amp and volt ratings. WTF

And they both have the same Length, maybe the exta metal on the caps grounded out somehow. This kinda pisses me of.
