  • Dual Alts on Camaro?

I have a 140 amp rewound alt lying around which is what i have on the car before i got my HO alt.

Any one ever put 2 alts on their F-Body? There is definately space but i talked to my audio shop and they told me that the way i wanted to mount it wouldnt work because the alt would be turning the other way. And it wouldnt be making power so i had to go with a special alt which is designed to turn the oppostite way.

I wanted to use the HO alt to power the system, then a lower like 120 amps or so to power the car its self. And maybe another battery like an yellow top.

I am not certain on this, but if you use an alternator to basically power your stereo I think you will burn it up. When the bass hits and the alternator keeps spiking its output it is not good for it..
I would think it is better to put in a big a** cap than another alternator, because the cap is meant to supply spiked power while an alternator will burn up.

Yea thats why ill need another battery, so i will be basiclly runing 2 batteries.

Just a regular duralast gold 800 CCA up front for the car its self.

Then in the back i can put in an optima 1400 CCA and use the HO to power this one and run the system off this.

Not sure yet though i gotta talk to my shop. I just wanted to see if anyone has ever put 2 alts on their f bodys. Because the shop said it would be easier to come up with the custom brackets if i had some pics somewhere.

If not i would have to custom design some brackets and somehow mount them to the engine in a secure way.

This will not help you at all and will just waste money...but an optima yellow top and a capacitor and you won't have a problem...I don't care how big of a system you are using.

I already have a 1.5 F cap. I dont have the optima yellow top yet, but i do have a bigger 800 CCA batt.

          Perhaps thats my next mod.

this not true, and he is in the same boat i am, we are both running big systems and the only difference is i already have a yellow top. so my charging system is a 180 amp alt, yellow top, all 2 gauge wiring, and a 1 farad cap and i still have problems, a cap will not solve the problem. what alt do you have now?
