DO A SEARCH!!! you'll find all your answers and yes you can hook up an amp to your stock stereo, most amps and a high pass input where all you have to do is run some speaker wires to it and it'll work, if not you need a converter box to convert the speaker wires into rca's....
basicly a cheap jenson $50 run speaker wire off one of the pre-existing speakers, it's how i did mine and i have monsoon too.
and also i didn't use a converter box i just got an rca line and spliced it to the speaker source, works great on the jensons i've owned
ps. good luck with the rain here in VA i got flooded yesterday
