  • Ipod direct connection to stereo!!

After searching this site for a direct ipod connection to my stock stereo I came up with the GM-9 aux converter. I just got it today and was able to install it with no problems at all. All it does is take your cd changer connection from the back of your HU, and converts it into auxilary inputs. So I hooked it up to my ipod and wallah, works thru the stereo. Sound is awesome, none of the crap you get from the cassete or fm transmitters(gone thru 2 of them). It could be my imagination but when I turned the volume up it seemed to sound better and was able to reach higher volumes than even my cd player, but ill test that theory later. I couldnt be more pleased with this product. Im not sure on the compatibilty it has to everyones cars, so make sure you get the right one if you decide to buy one. My car is a 2001 firebird with a stock monsoon cd player. If anyone wants pics or has any questions im happy to help!

I HAVE done the same and it makes CD's, FM and of course
AM obsolete. Someday someone will make a stereo that has no am,fm,cd just a four channel amp with the controls and a place to plug in your iPod or other MP3 player.

I wish that worked with 97 models. I hear it only works with like 99+ or something like that.

ya, apparently you've been had, for another 40$ your radio buttons will control your ipod and charge it at the same time....you really should do more research before you buy things.

Personally i'd rather go with what he bought originally. I'd rather control the songs thru the ipod where i can actually have more control over the options. My friend has the alpine HU with ipod adapter, and I hate that to, you have to scroll thru the bands with the volume knob on the HU and it takes forever

I've got a kenwood headunit and the direct connection is next on my list. Heard it in a freinds car, it nikon, you're right, it does almost seem to sound better.

I think is sound better because it ones less converter your running it through, the headphone plug-in is OK but then your adjusting the volume on the ipod and the HU, it's hard to get perfect....and so you know, with the ipod interface you can still use your ipod to control what songs are playing, Im getting one for the V that shows all the playlists and songs playing on the NAV screen, which is why I like it so much. But at the time I like to set-up playlists so I dont have to scroll through my 3-4000 song list while Im in the car....another reason why I suggested this. but hey it's all up to you guys, just trying to show you a "cooler" way of doing things. and as for the kenwood they may or may not make an adapter for you, check the list, there are many more than just listed there, a quick google will find em for ya ;)

OlBird, if your pioneer HU is xm ready, you can go to best buy, and buy a IP-BUS cable that hooks up thru your xm connection on the back of the pioneer radio and goes to rca's, from there u will have to buy RCA to 8mm headphone jack, that will plug into your ipod,
and you set your pioneer to AUXILARY ON, and thats all u need...
it was pretty cheap, 30bucks for the cables

Thats what i did... works perfect.
