  • sealed box or vented box?

ok.. right now i have two 10 inch subs in a sealed box. it hits hard... however, what would the difference be like if it were a vented box? would it be better or worse?

Depends on the size and tuning frequency of the vented box. Ideally, you will notice an increase in volume of roughly 3db and an increase in low frequency extension. Both while maintaining decent frequency response. Again, that's ideally. What 10"s do you have? How much space can you give to a new box? You plan on building it yourself? What type of music do you listen to most often? I encourage you to read the related topic in the stereo section of the modifications encyclopedia.

i currently have a sealed box with two 10 inch alpint R's. pushed by a fosgate 1800w amp. im "refurbishing" my box because its wood and when after a while one subs screws popped out and stripped the holes.. i was thinking about just making a new face for the box where the subs go and also prolly gonna make it vented.. i dunno. I listen to mostly rock and classic rock.. but still like to blare it occasionally to hip hop/rap

I'm afraid it's really not that easy. A similar vented design will always need to be larger overall. Even if you wanted to keep the same net air space for the subs, you have to account extra space for the port itself. And that is even at the very minimum. An increase in net air space is really a requirement to achieve that extra low frequency extension.
