  • Sub(s) recommendations for a 97 blazer

Not an F-body but I've got a friend who's got a 97 Blazer and she wants to add subs to her system. Right now she's got a really nice Pioneer headunit with I beleive pioneer speakers in the stock locations (doors and dash). The speakers are powered off the headunit which actually sounds pretty good considering there's no amp hooked up to them. She listens mostly to a lot of hard rock/heavy metal. Any recommendations on subs? Maybe 2-tens or one 12? She's going to be using my old PPI A300.2 amp which puts out (300watts RMS bridged). It can only handle a 4-ohm load bridged so maybe two 8-ohm 10's in parallel or a dvc 12? She's not looking for mega bass or anything, just some extra kick. Price range is pretty wide open. All she really needs to buy is the sub(s), i'm going to build the box. thanks

It depends on what you want. I'd suggest going with maybe a JL series 1 12 or maybe even 2 tens, they seem to do the best around 300 watts. Not sure if they are supposed to hold more power than that tho.

JLs are awesome sealed - sealing a JL will give you awesome clarity and some extra kick...(Ported, vented etc are more for bass kick with more distrotion)which is good for rock...I have two sealed JL W6V2's and sound awesome when i play rock/metal...really brings out the percussion and bass guitars.

by far, like i said, the best subs for your amp will sund the best. You need to match your amp up to your subs. I still say JL ill be the best, one type r will sound better than both of those type -s. I dont think your amp will push a type r tho. It may push one type s...???

my friend had 4 12" infinity perfects in his blazer for a while (not a bad setup) before upgrading to 4 elemental designs 13Ov.2's (not only was it loud as hell it was one of the cleanest sounding systems i have ever heared). I would suggest the elemental nine.1 and 2 13Ov.2's. That would be more than enough for the average person though, my friend is a little insane.

If money is no object, throw in a 12W6v2 with your custom vented design. Done.
