• Has anyone installed an aftermarket HU in a 2002?

When I first bought my car I wanted to install a new head unit, but if I remember correctly, there was some kind of funky thing going on with the wiring for 2002 Camaro's. Something like if I had an aftermarket HU installed then my door chimes wouldn't work? I honestly can't remember what the guy told me, but it was along those lines. The only way to get around the wiring problem was to relocate the factory HU inside the glove compartment. I think this guy was on crack. Has anyone replaced their factory HU in a 2002? Did you have any problems?

I think thats for ON-Star equiped cars. If you have onstar its linked to the factory HU so you have to keep it plugged into the car if you expect it to work...

I have no clue what that guy is talking about.

LOL! Either you or the guy is on crack! One or the other. No matter if you have the Monsoon system or not, you can replace the factory H/U with any aftermarket one. No special adapters needed. However, your steering wheel controls will not work. If you want to keep them you will need the PAC SWI-X adapter.

That's what I thought too. He said if I installed an aftermarket HU that my door chimes and interior lights wouldn't work

on many of the other GM cars, then yes, cavaliers, and the expensive cars with onstar.

But the 97-02 f-body's just use a basic standard GM connector, and no expensive adapters necessary to make them work.
